My Love For You – Winfield Parker – Ru-Jac Records & The Legacy of Baltimore Soul

0

Baltimore soul man Winfield Parker performs backed by a band of Baltimore youth. The performance occurred at Ru-Jac Records & The Legacy of Baltimore Soul, a Creative Alliance event held offsite at the legendary Arch Social Club. The event celebrated the remarkable history of West Baltimore soul record label Ru-Jac Records which was primarily active in the 1960s and early 1970s. Parker began his recording career at the label and later found success with songs like “S.O.S. (Stop Her on Sight).” The labels’ entire catalog has been re-released by Omnivore Records (https://bit.ly/2UUDHRN).

Baltimore Music Map highlights people and places crucial to the city’s remarkable and largely unheralded musical heritage. The project collects oral history from Baltimore music elders telling important stories in front of the settings of the stories. Emphasis is placed on the rich musical heritage of neglected Baltimore communities.

Baltimore Music Map is funded by the Maryland Traditions Project Grant and produced by Brooks Long (2017-2018 Robert W. Deutsch Fellow at Creative Alliance) and is supported and hosted by Creative Alliance.
