Medical professionals needed to volunteer for free health clinic in Baltimore

A free two-day health clinic is coming to Baltimore to help residents with everything from dental and vision care to medical advice.Remote Area Medical is a national nonprofit organization that’s coming to the Stadium School in northeast Baltimore on June 10-11, and they need medical professionals to volunteer their time and services.”Anybody and everybody can come to this. There are no requirements; if you need to see somebody, please come out,” said Michael Mayes, a clinic coordinator with Remote Area Medical. “For dental, we do hygiene, cleanings. We also do simple extractions and fillings right on site. For vision, we take somebody from the beginning steps all the way through a pair of glasses.”Patients can also be seen for women’s health services and to get medical advice. The organization works with community groups across the country to set up weekend pop-up clinics. But, to make them happen, they need help. So, medical professionals in Baltimore and surrounding counties are asked to volunteer.”Without the volunteers, none of this will be possible — dentists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians, MDs, OBs, anyone that’s a medical professional,” Mayes said.Pediatricians are also encouraged to volunteer. With so many people expected to attend, the parking lot will open at midnight on June 9. The event opens its doors at 6 a.m. on June 10.People who are not medical professionals but who still want to help can help set up and tear down equipment, and interpreters are needed.
