Delhi HC sets aside conviction, 6-yr jail term considering lost trial court record

The Delhi High Court has set aside the conviction and 6-year jail term awarded to a man in 2003, noting the trial court record has been lost and material documents including witness depositions are now not available for its perusal. The high court, while dealing with the appeal of the convict against the trial court orders on conviction and sentence, said the perusal of the trial court record is an essential element of hearing of an appeal and every appellant has a valuable right to satisfy the appellate court that the material on record did not justify his conviction.

The Kirit Parikh Committee, which recommended a floor and ceiling price for natural gas produced from legacy fields of state-owned producers to moderate input price for CNG and fertilizer, has favoured paying ONGC and OIL a premium of 20 per cent over such price for any new gas production they add from old fields. The panel, which submitted its report to the oil ministry last week, has recommended benchmarking price of natural gas produced from ONGC and OIL’s legacy or old fields, called APM gas, at 10 per cent of cost of crude oil imported into India, according to a copy of the report seen by PTI.

HIV cases in Assam surge with 2,269 more testing positive since April

Since April, 2,269 people have tested positive for HIV in Assam, which is much higher than the previous two years, according to official data. A total of 5,57,747 samples were tested from April to October this year. Of that, 2,269 samples turned out to be positive for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), according to the Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS).
