BRYANS ROAD, Md. — Two women narrowly escaped a potentially tragic incident early Thursday morning when their vehicle plunged into the Potomac River at Marshall Hall Park.
Emergency personnel, including the Charles County Dive Team, responded to the scene around 12:20 a.m. on August 29, 2024. The driver reportedly told 911 dispatchers that the vehicle was traveling at excessive speed when it struck a barrier and began sinking into the river.
Upon arrival, rescuers found one occupant had already exited the water, while the other was still in the river attempting to retrieve personal belongings.
The two women, aged 26 and 48, were evaluated by EMS at the scene. They were subsequently transported to local hospitals for further examination and minor injuries.
The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing.
