Towson University has named an interim president after Kim Schatzel’s departure

Towson University has a new interim president.The school announced on Thursday that Melanie Perreault, Towson University’s provost and executive vice president for academic and student affairs, will serve as interim president. She will assume the role on Feb. 1, 2023.Last week, the university announced President Kim Schatzel would become president of the University of Louisville after seven years at Towson.A message was sent to the Towson community on Thursday. University System of Maryland Chancellor Jay A. Perman wrote: “Dr. Perreault has been central to TU’s growth and success over the past four years … I know she’ll continue to guide the university with the same vision, care and confidence that have characterized her (tenure at TU).”Perreault has served as Towson’s chief academic officer since February 2019.”I am honored to further serve this remarkable institution as interim president, and I look forward to working with our outstanding leadership team to continue Towson University’s rising momentum,” she said in a statement.Perman said the search for the university’s next president will be conducted by Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm. He added that the Towson University community will have the opportunity to be involved in the process. Those details will be shared in 2023.
