WALDORF, Md. – Recently, while patrolling near Crain Highway and our HQ, Officer Ptack spotted an Osprey in distress. The bird appeared injured, and with her natural instinct for rescue, she quickly stepped in.
After ensuring the Osprey was safe, she coordinated with DNR and Owl Moon Raptor, who diagnosed the bird as severely malnourished. Thankfully, the Osprey is now in good hands and on the road to recovery.
For Officer Ptack, this act of kindness is nothing new. Growing up on a farm, her family always opened their doors to injured or abandoned animals—dogs, horses, birds, you name it. Their farm was a haven of comfort, rehabilitation, and love for all creatures in need.
Two years ago, Officer Ptack rescued an abandoned German Shepherd puppy that was dumped out near a creek in the frigid cold. When no one claimed the pup, she welcomed it into her home, adding another member to her family.
Thank you, Officer Ptack, for your compassion and dedication to all living beings in our community.
