Maryland men’s soccer added forward Cristiano Fitzgerald, a 20-year-old who was playing in Liga Portugal, the top level of Portuguese soccer, head coach Sasho Cirovski announced Tuesday.
Fitzgerald has played for two Liga Portugal clubs in two seasons and is yet to score a goal. He was born in Singapore and spent time with youth clubs in Portugal and California. Being of Irish descent, he suited up for Ireland’s U19 international team in 2021.
Cirovski said Fitzgerald can add creativity to Maryland’s wing attack at the Terps’ fall sports media day Tuesday.
Fitzgerald is named after legendary Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
