On Tuesday afternoon, right-handed pitcher Carlos Tavera, and outfielder Donta’ Williams were called up to play for the AAA Norfolk Tides.
Tavera recorded a 3.30 ERA over 30 innings pitched for the Baysox so far in 2024. He threw 36 strikeouts and finished May by throwing 9.1 consecutive scoreless innings. Tavera was drafted by the Orioles in the 5th round of the 2021 draft from the University of Texas-Arlington and has played for the Baysox since the beginning of the 2023 season. He finishes his time with the Baysox with a 4.43 ERA over 109.2 innings, which includes 125 strikeouts over 32 appearances.
As well as Tavera, outfielder Donta’ Williams has also been named to the Norfolk AAA roster. While Williams’ average of .179 has been subpar in 2024, he has been a key defensive player for Bowie for the past three seasons. He primarily filled the Baysox centerfield slot and has always been a well-trusted leader in the outfield. Williams was called up to AA in 2022 and has a career .213 average with 104 RBIs and 57 stolen bases. He was drafted by Baltimore in the 4th round of the 2021 MLB draft from the University of Arizona.
