The Acolyte – Night – Review: It Was a Night to Remember

As I and many have guessed, Mae’s Master is Qimir, a Sith. While that was no great surprise, the rest of the episode was and left me on the edge of my seat. We picked up right where last week’s episode ended (and I did not have high hopes as I was bored out of my mind last week). My fears were quickly put to rest.

Osha awakens to the Jedi getting murdered by the Master (later to be revealed as Qimir). This lightsaber battle was great. We had a great mix of martial arts and use of the Force. It looks like all is lost until Master Sol finally appears and battles the Master.

The entire episode was nothing but battles. Sol orders Yord to take Osha to safety back on the ship as he tries to figure out who the Master is. It is clear they have some familiarity between them – something that still remains a mystery by the end of the episode.

Jecki meanwhile battles Mae in an attempt to arrest her. The young Padawan succeeds in getting the cuffs on Mae but is stopped by the Master. She battles him using two lightsabers and it is for lack of a better word – epic. Sol arrives to assist and you have two on one with the Master also trying to capture a fleeing Mae to punish her for betraying him.

Unfortunately, Jecki is eventually killed by the Master which sends Sol into a fit of rage. Osha convinces Yord to return and help and Yord then gets his neck snapped. I did not expect us to lose these two characters but it was a brilliant decision as the audience has become attached to them emotionally. During the fight with Jecki Master’s helmet is knocked off revealing his identity as Qimir.

He seems very upset with Sol and explains he is a Sith and wants his own pupil – an Acolyte. These Jedi have never confirmed the existence of the Sith so this is very jarring for everyone. Just as Sol was about to end Qimir, Osha stops him. Osha puts her flashlight on Qimir’s back so the moths can take him. Osha begins to question Sol but Mae stuns him. Osha and Mae have the worst family reunion with Mae besting Osha and then cutting her hair and taking her place with Sol when he awakes. We see Qimir free himself and use his Force power to heal Osha.

This episode felt like classic Star Wars. A whole episode dedicated to lightsaber battles? Sign me up! Sol lost his whole team, has no “Mae” in his mind and will be returning empty handed. He will have to answer many questions. I am very excited to see what happens next.
