HOLLYWOOD, Md. – On Friday, June 21 the Southern Maryland community is invited to wind down and perform yoga with horses at the Greenwell State Park for an event that is the first of its kind: Namaste Neighs Yoga with the Horses.
The event is a collaboration between My Happy Yoga Place and The Greenwell Foundation. It will feature a simple yoga practice for people of all levels and abilities, according to Alaina Rodriguez, CEO of My Happy Yoga Place.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to The Greenwell Foundation, enabling them to continue their vital work serving individuals of all abilities in the Southern Maryland community
The Greenwell Foundation is a local nonprofit organization that serves the needs of the community by providing programs such as summer camps, horse connection for veterans, guided outdoor activities, and many more, according to Rodriguez.
A lot of the funding for these programs comes from donations and other programs/events like Namaste Neighs Yoga with the Horses.

Rodriguez initiated the partnership with the intention of supporting the foundation and bringing awareness to the organization.
Rodriguez was inspired by her students requesting to do yoga with an animal when she created this event concept. She chose horses because she believes there is a special aura they carry that can be felt.
“Horses are so intuitive and they really can sense your energy so to do yoga in this beautiful setting with the presence of these majestic animals is just gonna be so much fun,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez hopes the event pulls the Southern Maryland community closer together, understanding the need and importance of wellness and mental health, according to James Vasquez, the Public Relations spokesperson for My Happy Yoga Place.
Yoga is a beneficial practice for mental health and the calming presence of horses can boost overall enjoyment.
Rodriguez hopes those who have never experienced yoga recognize it is a wonderful, peaceful practice and experience the physical and mental benefits such as an increase in strength and mobility but also meditation and breathing regulation, she said.
“I just really hope people come and they have fun and they feel relaxed and peaceful when they leave,” Rodriguez said.

6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Attendee Check-In
