EDGEWATER, Md. — The 122-foot yacht Lovebug ran aground and sank approximately a half-mile offshore between Beverly Beach and Curtis Point at the mouth of the West River on July 27, 2024.

The Coast Guard, along with partner agencies, responded to the incident around 12:30 p.m. and found the vessel capsized, though the cause remains unclear. All five individuals on board were safely rescued by a good Samaritan and a nearby tow boat.

To mitigate any potential pollution, a salvage company has deployed an oil boom around the vessel. Pollution responders from the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Maryland – National Capital Region are currently on the scene.

The U.S. Coast Guard Station Annapolis dispatched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small II crew for search and rescue operations and to secure the scene.
