NANJEMOY, Md. — In a miraculous turn of events, deputies from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office located and rescued a woman who had been trapped in her overturned vehicle for two days.
On the night of Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Maryland State Police were called by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office to take over the investigation of an overturned vehicle in the 8500 block of Riverside Road, Nanjemoy.
Deputies from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office had initially responded to the location around 10:40 p.m. for a welfare check on a woman whose GPS monitor indicated she hadn’t moved from that spot since Sunday.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the overturned vehicle, a 2005 Toyota RAV4, and found the 40-year-old woman suffering from head injuries, partially inside the vehicle in a wooded area.
Firefighters extricated the trapped woman from the vehicle and handed her over to EMS for care. A MEDEVAC was requested but was down due to weather conditions.
She was transported by ambulance to MedStar Washington Hospital Center for treatment.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is now leading the investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
