WALDORF, Md. – A vehicle accident occurred on August 12, 2024, at approximately 8:17 PM in the 11400 block of Avenel Court, where a car was inadvertently driven into a residence. The incident involved a driver who mistakenly accelerated into the garage and subsequently into the house.
The accident was first reported by the driver’s mother, who explained that her daughter had been driving and thought she had her foot on the brake. Unfortunately, the vehicle sped forward, entering the garage and making its way into the home. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, including units from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and medical teams.
Upon arrival, responders found that the house had sustained significant damage, and the vehicle had come to rest inside the residence. As a precautionary measure, the house was evacuated, and the situation was carefully assessed to ensure no further injuries occurred. Fortunately, it was confirmed that the driver did not suffer any injuries from the accident.
Due to the structural damage caused by the vehicle’s impact, a Charles County building inspector was called to the scene. The building inspector was expected to arrive within approximately 30 minutes from the time of the report to evaluate the extent of the damage and to determine if the house was still structurally sound.
Additionally, emergency units remained on standby to ensure the safety of the area. At one point, first responders were unable to reach anyone inside the residence, prompting concerns about the structural integrity of the building. However, all safety measures were maintained, and the scene was secured to prevent any further incidents.
As more information becomes available, updates will be provided to the public. Authorities urge residents to exercise caution in the area and to avoid the vicinity of the accident while assessments and repairs are underway.
