Unoccupied Home Destroyed By Fire During Renovations In La Plata

LA PLATA, Md. — The Office of the State Fire Marshal is currently investigating an overnight fire that broke out at a single-family home undergoing renovations in La Plata.

The incident occurred in the early hours of August 18, at approximately 2:21 a.m., at 4490 Jimmy Green Place. Fortunately, the house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The Bryans Road Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene with 15 firefighters, although the blaze had been extinguished prior to their arrival.

The fire resulted in an estimated loss of $183,000. The homeowner was the first to discover the fire, but the area of origin and the preliminary cause remain under investigation.
