Tragic Drowning At Camp Merryelande Beach In Piney Point

PINEY POINT, Md. – On August 11, 2024, at approximately 5:30 PM, emergency responders were dispatched to Camp Merryelande Road following reports of a drowning incident.

A 50-year-old man fell out of a boat near the west side of the beach. The victim was pulled from the water by a passerby on a jet ski, but tragically, he was unresponsive and not breathing. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim is believed to have been submerged for 5 to 10 minutes before being rescued.

Authorities on the scene confirmed the cardiac arrest had just occurred, but the absence of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) hindered further life-saving measures.

During the same incident, a 10-year-old child on the beach required urgent medical attention for chest pains. A second ambulance was requested to assist the young patient, highlighting the severity of the situation.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
