Town Officials Address Misinformation Surrounding Youth Sports Schedule At Kellam's Field

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. – The Town of Chesapeake Beach issues clarification regarding youth sports activities at Kellam’s field.

There is misinformation spreading online via social media and emails related to the Beach Buccaneers home games for Saturday, September 21.

The narrative, created for an unknown and what appears to be divisive reasoning, claims that the Town of Chesapeake Beach unexpectedly canceled scheduled games for this weekend at Kellam’s field. This claim is not factual.

The Town of Chesapeake Beach remains without a complete schedule for the Beach Buccaneers fall sports season and has conveyed over the last 6 months to the Town’s point of contact, the Beach Buccaneers President, that Taste the Beaches guests would be shuttled from Kellam’s field to the event on September 21st to ensure ample free public parking is provided. Regardless, when the team President reached out to the Town Administrator on September 10 requesting to hold games during the date and time of Taste the Beaches, the Town proactively worked with the team to coordinate making both the games and the shuttle for event parking possible.

Planning was in place with the President of the team to direct parents to the most north western corner of the Kellam’s complex parking lot so that parents and children could enter the field through the side gate to avoid any hazards for children with the shuttle circling through the parking lot during the event and game schedule times.

Yesterday, the Beach Buccaneers President informed the Town Administrator that they would move all but the flag football games scheduled for Saturday, September 21st to another field. This determination was made at no demand by the Town of Chesapeake Beach. The Town has requested that the team leadership correct the divisive misinformation that does not serve our children or our community. The Town remains with the expectation from the Beach Buccaneers that the correct information will be provided to parents, coaches and the public.

The Town of Chesapeake Beach is committed and will remain committed to the youth that access Kellam’s field at the center of our amazing community.
