CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. – Chesapeake Beach is awarding scholarships to Northern High School students. Approved by the Chesapeake Beach Town Council, this scholarship program awarded $5,000 in scholarship funds to talented students in 2024.
The scholarship is in honor of the Senate President Emeritus Thomas V. Miller Jr, who acted as the longest-serving Maryland Senate President. Miller was also a resident of Chesapeake Beach.
One of the requirements for students submitting an application for this scholarship was to write an essay or poem describing their outlook on Public Service. This is a summary of their writing, “Public Service provides a means to giving back to the community everything we are blessed to have. We find value in supporting those in our communities and recognize the positive impact of the world around us. Public service provides a means to contribute to resolving broader societal issues and conflicts, as well as creating meaningful change in our physical and societal environments.”
Ava Ballard, Jasmine Simpson, Charles Dunn, and Jaidyn Wheelock are the four 2024-2025 recipients of the annual Chesapeake Beach scholarship program. We’ve listed their academic majors and colleges of choice below.
- Ava Ballard – Dance and Psychology, New York University
- Jasmine Simpson – Environmental Science and Public Policy, University of Pennsylvania
- Charles Dunn – Musical Performance and Spanish, St. Mary’s College of Maryland
- Jaidyn Wheelock – Forensic Science, Florida Gulf Coast University
