Town Email Sparks Uproar: Chesapeake Beach Buccaneers Face Homecoming Hurdles

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. – Ahead of Kellam’s Field’s- Beach Buccaneers Homecoming weekend in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, The town of Chesapeake Beach released an email a few hours prior to the weekend’s start up upsetting patrons of the event.

The email reads, “We understand that there will be no use within the concession stand and that the team plans to use food trucks that have received final permits from the Town.” This came as a huge upset as the concession stand has been out of operation for “about two years due to health code issue” a Buccaneers volunteer member stated.

The stand at Kellam’s Field was supposed to be unveiled for the Homecoming weekend celebration and two year absence. This frustrated volunteer members due to the $50,000 budget the concession stand was allocated.

The email also states that “Only the food truck vendors permitted by the Town are able to set up and sell items, no other vendors have been permitted to sell items or services at the field.” This also comes as an upset as prior events the Town now requires to have the okay at what vendors are allowed at the event.

The final upset for the event will be the lack of bouncy houses for patrons to enjoy. The email states, “Per the recent tragedy at the Blue Crab Stadium, the town will not permit bounce houses that children enter to be placed on the field.” After hearing about this, Buccaneers advocates pleaded with the town to get this corrected, as the event hosts a number of children of all ages that would enjoy the amenity, but unfortunately failed.

The Town of Chesapeake Beach has since locked the concession stand up so Buccaneers volunteers are unable/not permitted to enter due to “kitchen appliances not yet being inspected.”

Members are still eager to make this an event to remember for the Buccaneers fans, family, and town despite the restrictions.
