CALVERT COUNTY
Calvert County Farmers Markets: Buying local is easy with an abundance of fresh food from Calvert County’s farmers, agri-businesses and watermen. Patrons can find local produce, meat, bedding plants (vegetables and herbs) and a bounty of other offerings at these “producer only” markets. Garden Smarter: Introduction to HugelKultur: Learn the basic of Hugelkultur for carbon sequestration (and recycling), water management, soil improvement and space maximization. This event is being held at the Calvert County Community Resources, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on September 28th, 2024. You can register for this event here.
Pirate Cruise aboard the Witchcraft: Don your finest pirate attire and set sail for a swashbuckling adventure ye won’t soon forget! Guests are invited to dress in costume and bring their favorite grog and snacks. Cost is $60 per person and max capacity is 6 people. You must be 18 or older to cruise. Tickets are nonrefundable and non-transferable. Refunds only if cruise is canceled by the captain. This event is being held on September 29th, 2024. You can register for this event here.
Harvest Festival: Activities include a petting zoo, hayrides, a corn maze, pumpkin patch, human hamster wheel, farm trail, rubber duck races, sunflowers, diggers, and a playground. New this year: pig races! Plus, there are plenty of great photo opportunities throughout the event. Mark your calendars for an unforgettable day at the farm! La Plata Farmers Market: Season- Summer Market Hours: April 6 – November 2024, Wednesdays and Saturdays, 9am – 2pm. Locations: 209 Washington Avenue.
Classic Car Show: Food vendors, live music and raffles. Plus, while here eat, drink and shop at our great retailers and restaurants! This event is on September 28, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Pop-Up & Grow Weekend Market: The Shops at Waldorf Center is excited to announce that Pop-Up & Grow will be open every weekend. You can register for this event here.
La Plata Train Station Museum Opening: La Plata’s train station has long been a symbol of the founding and growth of our town. Learn about the history of the Pope’s Creek branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad and the pivotal role it played in the growth of La Plata. The museum’s thoughtfully curated collection of artifacts and displays gives visitors a unique opportunity to explore local history in a visual and hands-on way. There is no admission fee.

Taste of St. Mary’s @ Leonardtown Square: Spend your afternoon in the heart of Leonardtown for a delightful journey through the vibrant flavors of our region at the annual Taste of St. Mary’s. Local restaurants, food trucks, and specialty food and beverage businesses come together to showcase the delectable dishes that capture the essence of our diverse food scene. The Civil Rights Act in Southern Maryland: Yesterday, Today, and for Tomorrow @ Nancy R. and Norton T. Dodge Performing Arts Center: To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act and to coincide with Governor Wes Moore’s proclamation of 2024 as Maryland’s Year of Civil Rights, the Center for the Study of Democracy, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Historic St. Mary’s City and Historic Sotterley will host a panel discussion titled “The Civil Rights Act in Southern Maryland: Yesterday, Today, and for Tomorrow.” This program will feature distinguished panelists from academia, law, activist and advocacy circles and the museum studies community from the region to explore the legacy of the Civil Rights Act in Southern Maryland.
