CALVERT COUNTY

Calvert County Farmers Markets: Buying local is easy with an abundance of fresh food from Calvert County’s farmers, agri-businesses and watermen. Patrons can find local produce, meat, bedding plants (vegetables and herbs) and a bounty of other offerings at these “producer only” markets. Garden Smarter: Toads & Fairy House: Learn a little about toads and how to create a fairy house for them. The program will be held in the Makerspace which allows ages 8 years and older with an adult. This event is free; being held at the Calvert Library Twin Beaches Branch, 10-11 a.m. Saturday, September 21. You can register for this event here.

Biomechanics of the Equestrian Partnership: Learn from international rider Betsy LaBelle how to work with your horse to create a happier and longer-lasting partnership. This event is free; being held at the Maryland Horse Library & Education Center, 5-6 p.m. You can register for this event here.

Traveling Agritourism Workshop: Visit farms with an agritourism focus and learn about successes and challenges. This event is hosted by UMES Extension. This event costs $55.20; being held at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Richard A. Henson Center 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can register for this event here.

CHARLES COUNTY

La Plata Farmers Market: Season- Summer Market Hours: April 6 – November 2024, Wednesdays and Saturdays, 9am – 2pm. Locations: 209 Washington Avenue.

Young Frankenstein-Port Tobacco Players: This electrifying musical stage adaptation of Mel Brooks’ brilliantly funny film will leave you in stitches! This play begins September 20th and runs until October 13th. You can buy tickets for this event here.

FallFest at La Plata Farmer’s Market: Who doesn’t love all the fall things? Sunflowers and pumpkins and apples and cinnamon and mums and…If pumpkins and gourds are in, you know we’re painting them! And maybe we’ll have a game or two to play. This event is happening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 21st.

Goodbye Summer CrabFeast: Join us for a proper summer sendoff as only Marylanders know how. This All-You-Can-Eat CrabFeast features: Maryland Blue Crabs, Snow Crabs, Shrimp, Fried Chicken, Fried Fish, Mac N’ Cheese, Corn and Potato Salad. This event has ticket prices ranging from $35-$75. ST. MARYS COUNTY

St. Mary’s County Fair @ St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds: Enjoy four days of fun at the St. Mary’s County Fair! This classic fair is filled with rides, games, food, vendors, music, and so much more. Meet all sorts of farm animals in the barns, and browse the handiwork that’s been entered into a variety of competitions including home arts, farm and garden, arts and crafts. You can purchase tickets for this event in-person at the entrance gates; the event is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day it is being held.

Mixology with Emily & James @ Pier450: Learn all about the art of making craft cocktails. Mixing and matching flavors and aromas, incorporating botanicals and more with Emily & James at Pier450. The event is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and you can purchase tickets for this event here.

Open House @ Drayden African American Schoolhouse: Visit one of the nation’s best-preserved, one-room African American schoolhouses. Check out the restored schoolhouse and learn about its rich history and importance to education in St. Mary’s County. Staff will be available at the school during this time to answer any questions and provide information. The St. Mary’s County Museum Division also offers special programs for school, bus, and other tour groups who would like to visit the site. Visitors who would like to see the schoolhouse outside open house hours can contact the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum at 301-994-1471. You can register for this event here.

Mark Twain Lecture Series: Laughing to the Polls with Matt Friend @ Nancy R. and Norton T. Dodge Performing Arts Center: Experience comedian and impressionist, Matt Friend at the Mark Twain Lecture Series on American Humor & Culture. Friend has voiced multiple characters for “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy.” He also surprised President Joe Biden while performing at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. You never know what you will get from Matt Friend’s repertoire of 250 impressions. Get your tickets to one of the largest events in Southern Maryland. The event is happening from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
