CALVERT COUNTY
The North Beach Farmers’ Market taking place every Saturday throughout October 26 (8 am to 11:30 am), located at Senior Center Parking Lot, 9010 Chesapeake Avenue, North Beach, MD – We are pleased to continue our traditional, small-town atmosphere farmers’ market for the 2024 season! The market will include local vendors with items such as plants, farm vegetables, baked goods, meats, cheeses, eggs and other fresh goods. The Town of North Beach encourages all guests to HELP REDUCE WASTE by bringing your own bag and using the appropriate disposal containers provided at the market.

NAACP Juneteenth Celebration on June 15 (11 am to 5 pm), located at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, 10515 Mackall Road, Saint Leonard, MD – Around the middle of June in 1865 is when the last of the enslaved people in the United States learned that they were free. Every year we celebrate the freedom, culture, and history of Black people with Juneteenth in honor of their emancipation at that time. For Juneteenth this year, come out to Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum for the Calvert County (MD) Branch of the NAACP Juneteenth Celebration Saturday, June 15th from 11am to 5pm. Thousands of people come out every year for this free event and we would love for you to be one of them this year! Juneteenth at the Museum on June 19 (1 pm to 3 pm), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road, Solomons, MD – Celebrate Juneteenth at the museum, learning about the history and legacy of those who worked in the Lore Oyster House through photos and oral histories. Enjoy demonstrations in boat caulking and oyster shucking. Learn about oyster harvesting through time by playing our Generations Game. Included with museum admission.

The Shops At Waldorf Center Farmers Market taking place every Saturday through mid-November (weather permitting) (10 am to 2 pm), located at Shops at Waldorf Center, 3003 Festival Way, Waldorf, MD – Guests are encouraged to visit the Farmers Market, held in the parking lot near CAVA, to find fresh local fruits and vegetables, including strawberries, apples, oranges, asparagus, avocados, and tomatoes. Additionally, there will also be local makers, soaps, honey, baked goods and flowers. Visiting the Farmers Market is free and open to the public; no pre-registration is required. Nature Walk & Talk at Summerseat Farm on June 15 (9 am to 11 am), located at Summerseat Farm, 26655 Three Notch Rd, Mechanicsville, MD – We are pleased to announce a Nature Walk & Talk on the beautiful grounds of Historic Summerseat. Join Maryland Master Naturalist Bill Cheeseman for a guided walk along one of our trails through the wonderful forest here. Learn about the variety of trees that are keeping you cool with their shade, as well as many other plants along the way. We will also listen for any birds and try to figure out who they are. We might even find signs of other critters who were there before us. This is an informal, educational, and fun way to spend some quality outdoor time in the woods around us. We will meet at the pavilion, and start our approximately two-hour walk from there. The total Walk is approximately two miles on a natural surface trail with minimal elevation change. The trail is well maintained, there are very few exposed roots, and it is accessible to most with mobility challenges.
Drop-In Basketball at Carver Recreation Center every Saturday, June 15 through July 6 (9 am to 12:30 pm), located at Carver Recreation Center, 47382 Lincoln Avenue, Lexington Park, MD – Join us for a drop-in basketball event at Carver Recreation Center, 47382 Lincoln Ave, Lexington Park on Saturdays. Two sessions are available: Players in grades 6-8 from 9:00-10:30 am and Players in grades 9 & 10 from 11:00 am-12:30 pm Fees: $5 per session ($7 per session for non-residents). To guarantee your spot, participants must register in advance. Registration is open beginning at 9:00 am the Monday prior and closes at 12:00pm on the Friday prior. No team registrations, coaching, or instructing are allowed. Adults may participate as spectators only. Players should not bring their own basketball. Basketballs will be provided. Players will sign in on team rosters upon their arrival. Pick-up scrimmage games will be played. The length of each game will be determined by the number of players attending. Players should bring a refillable water bottle.
