LEONARDTOWN, Md. — With the monumental moving of the beloved pizza restaurant, many have excitedly followed both online and in person the success of The Slice House.

The new location now features two separate parts of their spacious building, with one side being a 50-person bar to cater to those wanting to enjoy one of many local craft beers and brews. The other is a great spot for families and those wanting to get whole pies or enjoy a dinner with those they love.

On the subject of the new location, clientele, and ‘behind the bar’ information, long-time bartender Judy Taylor had these words of pride and stories of the past location to share, as well as what she sees for the new location.

When asked about what she thought made The Slice House such a popular spot for locals from across SOMD, she had much to say about the different businesses across Leonardtown Square and their own uniqueness.

“I mean, every place has its own vibe. So, I mean, it’s kind of cool. It’s kind of cool when you sit there and think about it…it’s funny because, obviously there’s overlap with every place, customer-wise. But there’s not… there’s not too much between each place. People come looking for a specific atmosphere,” explains Taylor.

Slice House has seen changes in things like more menu items, a larger volume of customers buying and wanting full pies, as well as more regulars bringing in their friends and colleagues because of the larger space at both the bar and the regular seating area.

They now offer sandwiches, subs, salads, and appetizers alongside their classic and specialty pizzas; weekly flavors are shared on their Facebook every week.

While the new location turns a page in the story of The Slice House, Taylor shares a memory from the old location, which first opened five years ago. There are many events that she recalled, even as recent as the Duck Day festivities that happened right here in Leonardtown Wharf. However, this memory goes all the way back to the first year they were opened, during the Veterans Day Parade.

“It was the Veterans Day Parade, maybe the first one after we opened, and it was just so chaotic,” Taylor said. “We had to essentially just offer two pizza options, cheese and pepperoni, because it was so hectic. I couldn’t tell you much outside of people coming in and out constantly for hours. But it was cool when it all calmed down, realizing how well we handled it and worked together.”

The Slice House is also known for their wide selection of craft beers, ranging from stouts, lagers, pale ales, sours, and smoothie beers. It’s something Taylor mentions as being something she takes pride in and makes sure to change out weekly to keep people’s interest; saying that she can almost always change someone over from drinking a domestic to a local or craft beer instead.

The future is something that every business looks forward to on a daily basis, with The Slice House being no exception. They have already met their goal of moving to a bigger building with more space for their patrons, but what else could they be thinking of for their future?

“I’m kind of living that question out now,” Taylor said. “I have more space, more options, so I’m where I want to be. I don’t necessarily know where to go from here. But it’s always cool to see a need for expansion and to bring in new things. I’m honestly doing it now.”

The Slice House journey continues, blending cherished memories with new possibilities in their expanded space. Stop by and experience the new location for yourself, and join the community in celebrating this local favorite’s next chapter.
