Netflix is ensuring The Diplomat remains on duty, renewing the Keri Russell-led political drama for a third season, TVLine has confirmed. The news comes just three weeks before the premiere of Season 2. Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, shared the announcement during the Bloomberg Screentime Conference in Los Angeles, according to Variety.
Season 2 of The Diplomat, set to debut on Thursday, Oct. 31, will pick up right where the first season ended. According to the official description, “a deadly explosion in the heart of London shatters U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler’s world.” As Kate seeks the truth behind the attack, her only reliable ally is her almost-ex-husband, Hal Wyler, who is both very much alive and deeply involved in the unfolding crisis.
In addition to the explosive storyline, Season 2 will feature Emmy winner Allison Janney, who joins the cast as U.S. Vice President Grace Penn, adding even more star power to the already gripping political drama.
