
ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Volleyball team (9-9) hosted the Eagles of Mary Washington University (8-9) for a midweek non-conference matchup. The Seahawks fell to the Eagles, 3-1.

How it Happened
- The Eagles took set one 25-19. Mary Washington used a strong start to the game to propel them forward in the set. The Eagles jumped out to an 8-1 lead and led by as much as 12. The Seahawks woke up thanks to a four point Julia Bobrowski service run, but it would be too little too late.
- St. Mary’s carried their momentum from the end of the first set into the second. The Seahawks led by a handful of points for a majority of the frame. They eventually slammed the door shut with five straight points to end the set, winning 25-16. Maya Mauro and Faith Shockley each finished with three kills. Mauro chipped in a service ace as well.
- Mary Washington returned to their first set form and built an early 6-1 lead. The Eagles were able to keep their distance from the Seahawks for a majority of the set and picked up an emphatic 25-13 win.
- The Eagles once again created a cushion to begin a set, this time leading St. Mary’s 13-5 in the early going of the third. The Seahawks were able to hang around before a couple of costly Mary Washington mistakes got them right back in the game, cutting the Eagle lead to 20-15. The momentum fully switched back in favor of the Seahawks after Maya Mauro scored two straight points off of a kill and an ace. Kaleigh Wiseman made it three straight points for St. Mary’s following a kill, which cut the Mary Washington lead to just two. After a Mary Washington point, Julia Bobrowski recorded a kill and Ellie Matthews completed a massive service ace to make it a one point game at 24-23. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, Mary Washington scored the following point to win the match.
