St. Mary’s College Volleyball Defeats Bryn Athyn To Kick Off United East Conference Play


SMCM Volleyball Defeats Bryn Athyn

ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Volleyball team (8-6) kicked off United East Conference Play with a home matchup against Bryn Athyn College (1-9). The Seahawks defeated the Lions in three straight sets.

How it Happened

  • The Seahawks used a nine point Stella Marrero service run to take control in the first set of action, jumping out to a 23-12 lead. Gracie Zartman and Maya Mauro were incredibly active over that run with Mauro contributing two kills, while Zartman picked up three. St. Mary’s took the first set, 25-15
  • Stella Marrero once again went on a service run which once again propelled the Seahawks to a set victory. St. Mary ended the second set by scoring 10 unanswered points. The Seahakws were able to capitalize on a couple of costly Lion mistakes, while Maya Mauro and Gracie Zartman continued to put points on the board for St. Mary’s.
  • Bryn Athyn gave the Seahawks all they could handle in the third set and even took a 20-17 lead. St. Mary’s was able to save their best for last in the set and ended up closing out the Lions following an Alayna Sievert service run that resulted in the last seven points of the match. Maggie Mohler and Julia Bobrowski recorded the final two kills of the match to clinch a third set victory.
