ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Department of Athletics and Recreation is seeking your help in nominating worthy individuals for the St. Mary’s Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024. This year, we are seeking nominations for the Athletic Legends category.
The Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1990 to “recognize outstanding individuals who have been associated with St. Mary’s College.” Inductees are elected by an Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, who is charged with the responsibility of bestowing the College’s highest athletics distinction.
Eleven (11) members have been inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame as Athletic Legends since the first inductee, Lloyd “Albie” Norris ’62, in 1995.
The selection criteria for an Athletic Legend is as follows:
- A nominee must be connected to the St. Mary’s College athletic program as either a player, coach, or staff member,
- Was distinguished in their significant contribution, incentive, or inspiration to the team(s) and/or has received recognition in public or private life for their accomplishments and achievements, and
- Must be a positive role model for our student-athletes.
Nominations must be received by the selection committee no later than August 28, 2024, and the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee will make its final decision on all nominees by September 6, 2024. At least two letters of nomination need to be submitted from individuals who know the nominee well and are aware of their achievements and quality of character. The letter(s) should include any awards or recognition earned while at St. Mary’s College, any awards or recognition they have earned as well as a description of their character, their leadership ability, and any other intangibles that they may have contributed as a member of the team?.
Inductees will be honored at the Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony Friday, October 18, to kick off Hawktoberfest weekend and recognized at halftime of the field hockey contest the next day at 3 pm.
