Single-Vehicle Crash Claims Life Of 69-Year-Old Bowie Man

CROFTON, Md. — A tragic single-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning August 20, 2024, resulted in the death of a Bowie man, according to local authorities. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:35 a.m. following reports of a crash on Priest Bridge Road near Defense Highway.

Upon arrival, first responders found a 2017 Ford Transit 250 van that had veered off the road and collided with a tree. The driver, identified as 69-year-old Winston Riley of Bowie, Maryland, was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center by Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel. Despite efforts to save him, Riley was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear as the vehicle was traveling northbound on Priest Bridge Road before it left the roadway.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section is actively investigating the incident to determine the cause of the accident.
