Scammers Posing As CCSO Representatives Targeting Residents

WALDORF, Md. – Over the past few weeks, we received reports of fraudulent phone calls targeting members of our community. Scammers are posing as representatives from the CCSO (Charles County Sheriff’s Office), claiming that individuals have outstanding warrants, missed jury duty, or need to post bail for a loved one. These scammers instruct victims to send money or gift card information to resolve these fabricated issues.

Please be aware that the CCSO will never contact individuals by phone to request payment or personal information. If you receive a call of this nature, we urge you to hang up immediately and contact our non-emergency number at 301-932-2222. It’s essential to verify the legitimacy of any communication claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office by initiating contact directly with us.

Scammers can manipulate caller IDs to make it appear that the call is coming from a legitimate source, such as our office. Therefore, never trust a phone number provided by an unsolicited caller. Your safety and security are our top priorities, and we appreciate your vigilance in protecting yourself and your loved ones from these deceptive practices.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding potential scam activity, please do not hesitate to contact us. Together, we can work to prevent these fraudulent attempts and keep our community safe.
