Samsung is also working on a tri-fold smartphone

Samsung could launch a tri-fold smartphone in 2025, revealed industry insiders from Korea. The company is ready with the technology, and the supply chain is prepared for the new product. Still, the final call should come from the MX (Mobile eXperience) Division responsible for the foldable phones.

According to the same report, orders for foldable OLED panels were decreased over 10% as demand for Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 did not meet expectations.

Samsung Display shipments for foldable OLED panels will be 12 million in 2024, a stark 40% decrease from the 20 million shipments last year. This includes screens for Galaxy products and other companies that rely on Samsung as a supplier like Xiaomi, vivo, and Oppo.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, in particular, are responsible for about 8 million units, down from 10 million forecasted sales. The sales trend of all devices, new and old, is declining year over year. One other way Samsung might try to combat that according to the report is with a cheaper Galaxy Flip, making the form factor accessible to a wider audience.
