Richard Wilbur Cullison, 74, of Ridge, MD and North Port, FL passed away peacefully August 8, 2024. Born August 1, 1950 in Leonardtown, MD, he is the son of Leon “Dictator” Cullison Jr. and the late Mildred Saunders Cullison. He is survived by his son, Frank Cullison of Scranton, PA, and his two stepdaughters, Erica Al-Khatib (Danny) and Erin Knight (Kyle) of North Port, FL; his siblings Kay Carter of St. Inigoes, MD, Joseph of Incline Village, NV; and David (Cathy) of California, MD; Shirley Gatton Jones of Mechanicsville, MD, whom he loved like a sister; six grandchildren; Frank Jr., Wyatt, Ameera, Grayson, Reese and River.
Richard graduated from Great Mills High School in 1969 and enlisted in the Army in 1970. In 1971, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The resulting surgery left him paralyzed on the left side of his body and unable open his right eye. That did not slow him down – he had many memorable adventures in his lifetime. Family and friends were his greatest joy and he absolutely adored his grandchildren. He was the most dedicated and loyal friend one could have. He kept in touch with family and friends all over the country and loved to hang with lifelong friends at Buzzy’s Country Store in Ridge whenever he was in MD. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. He was a lifelong car enthusiast and enjoyed watching drag racing. He was definitely one of a kind and if you ask anyone about him, they always have a story. He will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends at the First Saints Community Church (First Friendship UMC) in Ridge on Sunday, Aug 18 from 1:00 to 3:00pm with the memorial service at 3:00. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s.
