BOWIE, Md. – A Bowie man running an errand for his wife made a pit stop on his way home for Lottery tickets, and returned home with a big winner. The lucky player won $50,000 playing the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game.
The Prince George’s County Pick 4 and Pick 5 fan was picking up a bottle of vitamins for his wife last Friday when he remembered he wanted to play his Lottery games for that evening. So, he stopped at Hilltop Wine and Spirits and purchased his regular games and a couple of $1 straight Pick 5 Quick Pick tickets.
He then headed home for a family dinner, but checked his tickets before enjoying his meal.
“I checked the website for the winning numbers and saw that they looked awfully familiar,” said the winner. “I immediately went through my tickets and sure enough, I had a match.”
The financial analyst said he was in shock. A familiar player of the Pick 5 game, he knew exactly how much he had won…$50,000!
“I looked at my phone, then back at my ticket, then back at my phone, then back at my ticket,” he chuckled. “It was definitely a wow moment.”
The father of four discretely told his wife he won $50,000, so that he wouldn’t alarm his children of what just happened. They kept the wonderful secret to themselves as they had dinner with their family.
When claiming the prize this week, he shared with Lottery Officials that he plans to pay bills with his winnings and will help his daughter purchase a car.
Also celebrating is the Lottery retailer that sold the winning ticket. Hilltop Wine and Spirits at 6856 Race Track Road in Bowie will receive a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize amount.
