ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Maryland State Board of Elections (SBE) today announced that the first phase of the 2024 General Election mail-in ballots are being sent to registered voters who requested them, starting September 20. Over 578,000 ballots are being mailed and over 91,000 are being delivered via the web. For ballots sent by mail, it is expected that voters will receive their ballot within five days.
Voters can still request mail-in ballots. To receive a mail-in ballot by mail, your request must be received (not just mailed) by October 29. The deadline to request a web delivery mail-in ballot is November 1. Visit SBE’s mail-in ballot webpage for more information.
“Mail-in ballots are a convenient and secure way to cast your vote in the upcoming election,” said State Administrator Jared DeMarinis. “Marylanders who want to cast a mail-in ballot should submit their request as soon as possible and have a plan to cast their ballot either by secure drop box or the U.S. Postal Service. Voters with questions about their voting options should contact SBE or follow us on social media as their trusted source of election information.”
SBE also announced that 286 ballot drop boxes have been installed for use in all counties and the City of Baltimore. A list of locations is available online (in Spanish). Voters who utilize drop boxes may submit their completed mail-in ballot at any official drop box in their county of residence through November 5 at 8 p.m. If returning your ballot by mail, it must be postmarked on or before November 5.
Casting a mail-in ballot is one of three ways to vote in Maryland’s Presidential General Election. Voters may also utilize early voting or vote on Election Day, November 5.
Early voting will be held from Thursday, October 24 through Thursday, October 31. Early voting centers will be open each day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can find the list of early voting centers here (in Spanish).
To find your Election Day polling place, visit SBE’s Find My Polling Place portal. Election Day polling places will be open November 5 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Some polling place locations changed following July’s Primary Election.
In recognition of National Voter Registration Month, SBE encourages Marylanders to register to vote on its online application page or complete an application in-person at their local board of elections office. The advance deadline to register is October 15. Marylanders interested in serving as election judges can complete SBE’s online interest form, or contact their local board of elections.
