MM 8.12: Former Maryland women’s basketball star Alyssa Thomas wins gold in Paris


Former women’s basketball star Alyssa Thomas helped Team USA win its eighth-consecutive gold medal Sunday in a nail-biting 67-66 win over France.

Thomas played 10 minutes off the bench, recording just one point, one assist and two rebounds.

Thomas, who played for Maryland from 2010-14, became the second former Terp to earn a gold medal in Paris after Thea LaFond won gold in triple jump representing Dominica.

Maryland football secured another big commitment, this time from 2025 four-star athlete Messiah Delhomme. The Virginia native projects primarily as a safety, and is ranked as the No. 5 player in Virginia in his class by the 247Sports composite. Colin McNamara had the story.

Maryland women’s soccer secured a 2-1 victory over Bucknell in an exhibition match. Emily Lenhard and Lauren Wrigley scored goals.
