Former Maryland baseball star Matt Shaw was named to the MLB All-Star Futures Game Tuesday. He will be the first Terp to play in the futures game and will compete for the National League.
This season, Shaw has played in 68 games for the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, in which he posted a .251 batting average, 35 RBIs and 10 home runs.
He is also coming off one of his best stretches of the year. Last week, Shaw was named Southern League Player of the Week after hitting at a .428 average with nine RBIs and four home runs.
The futures game takes place during the MLB All-Star Weekend on July 13 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The game will air on MLB Network, with coverage beginning at 4 p.m.
