Minnie Driver is opening up about a boy.
The Oscar nominee recently reflected on her engagement to ex Josh Brolin in the early aughts and revealed why she’s glad they didn’t go through with the wedding.
“The one time I was engaged,” she told The Times in an interview published July 6, “it would have been, I think, the biggest mistake of my life.”
Minnie and Josh started dating after working on their 2000 film Slow Burn. The Avengers actor proposed to the About a Boy alum the following year. However, just months later, they called off their engagement.
The 54-year-old also noted how her family dynamic—she told the outlet her father was married to another woman and had a second family while he was in a 16-year relationship with Minnie’s mother—affected the way she viewed romance.
“If I look at my history, what it did was make me want to be married so much and then choose men who were so not the right men to be married to,” Minnie explained. “So I would carry on longing to be married and to have that conservative version [of a relationship], find men who had no interest in that, and then if one did, run a mile.”
