Meizu Blue 20 unveiled with 5G connectivity and AI features

Meizu quit the smartphone business earlier this year and has released two new phones since – three now. The Meizu Blue 20 is a budget device with a Unisoc T765 chipset (6nm), no Snapdragon 8 here. The price isn’t known yet as the phone is only listed as “coming soon” with a placeholder price tag. What we know for now is that it will have 6/128GB and 8/256GB configurations.

The chipset brings 5G connectivity and all the AI you could ask for. There is a chat bot and an AI-assisted writing feature. You don’t even need a camera to take a photo, just ask the AI to generate one. But if you do snap a photo, you can use the uncrop tool on it to expand the scene.

Speaking of the camera, Meizu is doing something weird. It lists a 50MP rear camera and 8MP front camera, but if you read the fine print, you see that these resolutions are software interpolation from 13MP and 5MP sensors, respectively.

Anyway, back to AI. The OS is branded “Flyme AI OS” and also includes some smart security and privacy features.

The front features a 6.52” display with 90Hz refresh rate. The notch for the selfie camera betrays this as a budget model, but that also has upsides – these days it’s only the budget models that have microSD card slots (the Blue 20 supports cards up to 2TB) and 3.5mm headphone jacks. There are also stereo speakers on board.

The phone is powered by a 5,010mAh battery that gets recharged over USB-C (charge rate TBD). The device measures 8.3mm thick and has a strengthened 2.5D glass on the front (but Meizu didn’t mention and brand names).

There is no indication that company will make the Meizu Blue 20 available outside of China.
