FORT MEADE, Md. – On September 12, 2024 at approximately 9:35 a.m., Meade Middle School went into a “hold status.” for about an hour. It was reported by a parent and several students that an unnamed student posted threatening messages on social media in reference to the school.
Anne Arundel Police were notified. As the authorities investigated the alleged threat, out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on a “hold status.” The hold is not a lockdown, instead students, teachers, and facility members were to remain in place until notified otherwise.
In addition, no one was allowed in or out of the school. Parents received an alert via text.
Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the threat was deemed not credible and at no time was the school in danger. SRO’s (School Resource Officer) from other schools were present throughout the day for extra precaution.
Parents received texts in reference to the school hold and its outcome. Administrators urge
students and parents to remain vigilant and report anything that makes them feel unsafe to proper authorities. Safety concerns can also be reported anonymously to the Safe Schools Maryland Tip Line at 833-MD-B-SAFE.
