PIKESVILLE, Md. – The Maryland Department of State Police, Licensing Division (MDSPLD) is constantly reviewing policy and procedures in order to enhance the experience of our customers, allied agencies, firearms instructors and dealers, all while being as fiscally responsible to the citizens of Maryland as possible.
With this in mind, beginning August 18, 2024, the MDSPLD will discontinue printing and mailing Maryland Handgun Permit dispositions and statuses. All communications regarding the status and disposition of a Maryland Handgun Permit application will be communicated with the applicant via the email address associated with your Licensing Portal account.
The MDSPLD will continue to print and distribute, via US Mail, the Maryland Handgun Permit card and the accompanying approval letter.
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT LICENSING PORTAL ACCOUNTS BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNT HOLDER’S EMAIL ADDRESS.
Maryland Qualified Handgun Instructors and Maryland Regulated Firearms Dealers should be reminded that when assisting a customer establishing a Licensing Portal account or submitting any applications, the applicant must use a personal email account. Under no circumstances should an instructor’s or dealer’s email address be used to establish a customer’s Licensing Portal account.
