PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – On September 4, 2024, the Appellate Court of Maryland affirmed the sentence of Ancil Tony Hamrick.  Hamrick was convicted in Calvert County in 2001 of burglary and first degree premeditated murder.  The victim was Darlene Turney.

Hamrick was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder and 20 years consecutive for the burglary.  In 2022, he filed a motion in the Circuit Court for Calvert County claiming that his burglary sentence should have merged into his sentence for murder.

Circuit Court Judge Mark S. Chandlee rejected that claim.  Hamrick appealed and now the Appellate Court has also ruled that the original sentence was legal.

Hamrick is serving his sentence of life imprisonment plus 20 years at the Jessup Correctional Institution.
