Man, Dog Fatally Electrocuted During Severe Thunderstorm In Anne Arundel County

SEVERN, Md. – During a severe thunderstorm on June 30, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., emergency personnel were called to Maryland Avenue near Clark Station Road in Severn in response to a fatal incident involving downed power lines.

Upon arrival, Anne Arundel County firefighters reported several large trees and multiple power lines down and arching in the area. The initial crew requested additional resources due to the size and scale of the incident.

Crews located a 31-year-old man suffering from serious life-threatening electrocution injuries in the backyard of his two-story home. Emergency personnel quickly moved the patient away from the hazardous environment, and advanced medical treatment was immediately initiated by Anne Arundel County Paramedics and EMTs. The victim’s dog was reportedly dead on the scene from electrocution.

The victim was transported to UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
