Lew William Chavis, 39, of Gaston, SC, passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2024. Lew’s loss was completely unexpected and the family is shocked and deeply saddened.
On June 19, 1985, Lew was born to William and Angelina Chavis in Washington, DC.
Lew dedicated over 15 years to the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad, finding joy in his work and the ability to assist others. He had countless memories of early mornings and late nights, racing through the streets with sirens blaring, always ready to help those in need. His colleagues often marveled at his unyielding dedication and calm demeanor in the face of emergencies. Lew’s compassion and skill made him a beloved figure not only among his team but also within the community he served.
Anyone who knew Lew knew what an amazing man he was. He loved to restore old cars, cheer on the Dallas Cowboys, ride his four-wheeler with his son Lucas, and spend time with his beloved dog, Monster. Lew’s family and friends will miss him more than words can say.
