LEONARDTOWN, Md. – The Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary recently identified a need for a little extra comfort within the community. In a heartwarming effort, they began crafting simple and safe stuffed animals, including dinosaurs, kitty cats, and rabbits. These stuffed toys, made of cloth with no embellishments, were designed with the safety of small children in mind.
The Auxiliary reached out to every fire squad in St. Mary’s County and provided each department with two dozen of these handmade toys. This generous initiative was spearheaded by the outreach committee, which meets every Tuesday to work on community projects.
Their next endeavor is to create Velcro bags for walkers, which they plan to deliver to veterans and nursing homes. This ongoing commitment to community service is best summarized by a member of the Auxiliary: “It’s not always about asking the community for money, you’ve gotta give back.”
This project not only highlights the compassion and dedication of the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary but also underscores the importance of giving back to the community.
