Joseph Lawrence Alvey, Sr. – The BayNet

Joseph “Larry” Lawrence Alvey, Sr., 75, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on August 30, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. On February 19, 1949, Larry was born in St. Mary’s County to Leonard and Mary Alvey.

Larry worked as a dump truck driver for several different companies over the years. He enjoyed what he did for a living and was able to retire in 2015.

In November of 1970, he met his future wife, Linda. They developed strong feelings for each other and were married on March 9, 1971. Their family grew with the arrival of two children: Lorri Wathen of Mechanicsville, MD, and Larry Alvey (Vicki) of Mechanicsville, MD.

In his free time, he loved to be out on the water in the boat. He enjoyed going crabbing and fishing. Whether it was the early morning calm or the vibrant hues of a sunset, the tranquility of the open water always brought him a sense of peace. He was also a master of all trades and could easily figure any task out.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, siblings, James Alvey, Bessie Profit, Irene Strickland, Johnny Alvey, Hazel Summers, Helen Stoneman, Lee Alvey, Bobby Alvey, and Wayne Alvey, as well as grandchildren Landen Wathen and Lacie Wathen. He is survived by his beloved wife, children, sister Linda Summers, grandchildren Destiny Alvey, Ryan Alvey, Dustin Alvey, Lawson Wathen, Lanie Wathen, Corey Wathen (Samantha), Rhett Alvey, and great-grandchildren Grayson Alvey and Chase Alvey.
