Joseph Francis Owens, Sr., 94, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on June 7, 2024. On September 17, 1929, Joseph was born in Leonardtown, MD to George and Mary Lillian Owens.
On June 27, 1953, Joseph married the love of his life, Emily Owens. The two were blessed with six children, Joseph Owens, Jr. (Marty), of FL, Rose Owens of Lexington Park, MD, William Owens, Sr. (Christine) of Mechanicsville, MD, Barbara Owens of Mechanicsville, MD, Michael Owens (Lisa) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Kelly Potter (Kenny) of Charlottesville, VA.
Before he retired, Joseph worked for Safeway grocery store as a truck loader. He enjoyed what he did for a living.
In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports, spending time with family and friends, and telling stories about growing up and meeting the love of his life.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Mary Lillian Goddard, Bernardine Pilkerton, Josephine Quade, George Owens, Ralph Owens, James Owens, Bernard Owens, Harold Owens, Robert Owens, Ethel Bowles, and Abel Owens, as well as grandson Dustin Owens. He is survived by his beloved wife, children, sisters Alberta Ridgel and Janice Ivancik, fourteen grandchildren, Christina Stone, Lisa Ridosh, Joshua Phipps, Joseph Owens III, Maurice Owens, Jr., Heather Tyer, Michael Owens, Jr., Ashley Evans, Dylan Potter, Kyle Potter, Anthony Owens, Blake Owens, and Bryce Owens as well as nine great-grandchildren Kaleigh Stone, Aiden Owens, Joshua Phipps, Olivia Owens, Riley Phipps, Ezra Tyer, Camden Owens, Blake Phipps, and Brayden Ridosh.
On Monday, June 17, 2024, the family will receive friends for the visitation from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with prayers at 7:00 pm at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. The following day, a mass will be held on the 18th at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 28297 Old Village Rd, Mechanicsville, MD 20659. Interment will follow after the service at Charles Memorial Gardens, 26325 Point Lookout Rd, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Phipps, Joseph Owens III, Maurice Owens, Jr., Michael Owens, Jr., Kyle Potter, and Dylan Potter. Honorary pallbearers are Christina, Lisa, Heather, Dustin, Ashley, Anthony, Blake, Bryce, and Wes.
