This news comes just days before the highly anticipated second season of the “Game of Thrones” prequel premieres on Sunday, June 16, at 9/8c on the premium network.
“George [R.R. Martin], [showrunner] Ryan [Condal], and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming, in a statement on Thursday. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular Season 2, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for Season 3.”
“House of the Dragon,” based on Martin’s fantasy book “Fire & Blood,” is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and delves into the intricate history of House Targaryen. The upcoming second season will depict an all-out war between the Blacks (Rhaenyra, Daemon & Co.) and the Greens.
