PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The Calvert County Fire-Rescue-EMS Volunteers enjoyed a day filled with fun, laughter, and camaraderie with their families and peers as the department gave their thanks to the volunteers for their bravery, dedication and tireless efforts for safety on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

The free 13th Annual Volunteer Appreciation Day included food, live music, giveaways, a thrilling kickball tournament, laser tag and a dunk tank. Over 350 people attended the celebration this year, according to the Division Chief, James Richardson.
The dunk tank involved donations for the Volunteer Fire Rescue EMS Association’s Memorial Fund, according to Richardson.

Richardson believes showing appreciation for volunteers is necessary because the level of service provided to citizens is so critical to the community. As a result, showing appreciation for the amount of time and effort volunteers go through to provide that service is fundamental.
By recognizing and showing appreciation for the volunteers, the department is encouraging them to continue their great efforts and work hard, Richardson said.
The volunteers celebrated are from nine different departments and bringing them together with their families demonstrated great camaraderie and teamwork, according to Richardson.

“It’s a really good event that brings these people together to share some fellowship and time together,” Richardson said.
Richardson wants the volunteers to know how much the community appreciates them and everything they’ve done as well as their professionalism and the high degree of quality care that they provide in their fire suppression and emergency medical services, he said.
“These guys do a great job and it’s our honor to be able to show them appreciation one day on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners,” Richardson said. “The whole event wouldn’t be possible if it were not for the Board of County Commissioners that allow and fund the event.”
