CALIFORNIA, Md. – The St. Mary’s County Planning Commission reviewed the concept site plan for the upcoming Honda and Kia dealership at the board meeting on July 8. 2024, but was unable to make a final decision due to technical difficulties.

The site will include a 27,242 sq. ft. one-story car dealership for Honda and a 20,296 sq. ft. one-story car dealership for Kia (including service areas, retail sales, and service vehicles), according to the site plan. The dealership altogether is 47,538 sq. ft.

The site is located on 23112, 23116, 23134, and 23140 Three Notch Road, California, MD 20619, and is approximately 8.04 acres.

The proposed development site will create two right-in/right-out lanes along MD 235, according to the traffic impact study. The site will also have 105 customer/employee parking spaces and 484 storage and display parking spaces.

Chairman Howard Thompson, questioned a buffer for the site plan, an area that is a crucial safety feature that separates traffic flow from the work area and provides recovery space.

He believes the cars are too close to 235 and are more likely to be damaged if an accident were to happen, he said.

Attendees were unable to ask questions and provide testimonies for the engineer of the site plan to hear due to audio issues over the video call. As a result, the meeting was adjourned and further discussion on the plans has been postponed until Monday, July 22.
