ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – Historic St. Mary’s City is overjoyed to announce Mike Bellis as the new Director of Advancement & Communications. Following an extensive national search that attracted an impressive array of candidates, the museum and its board are confident that Mike’s experience and local roots make him the ideal fit for this pivotal role. A resident of Southern Maryland, Mike has consistently demonstrated his ability to exceed fundraising goals, revitalize donor engagement strategies, and build lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
Mike Bellis brings a wealth of experience from his recent role as Executive Director of the Charles Regional Medical Center Foundation, which he has been leading since August 2022. In this position, he oversaw fundraising, grant acquisition, and volunteer services for a 99-bed community hospital serving Charles County, Maryland. Mike’s educational background includes an associate’s degree in business administration from the College of Southern Maryland and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Global Campus, which he pursued while excelling in his professional endeavors.
Before his tenure at Charles Regional, Mike held various leadership positions, most notably as Assistant Director of Alumni & Annual Giving at the College of Southern Maryland and Executive Director of United Way of Charles County. At United Way, he launched the Community Connections program that provided vital resources to over 3,000 families during the COVID-19 pandemic and secured $1.5 million in rental assistance grants. His efforts culminated in the successful merger of three organizations to form United Way of Southern Maryland. Mike’s dedication extends beyond his professional career; he serves as Chair for the Housing Authority of St. Mary’s County and a Maryland Legal Services Corporation board member. Mike is a recognized leader, named a “VIP Under 40” by the Maryland Daily Record in 2020, and a proud graduate of Leadership Southern Maryland Class of 2019.
Historic St. Mary’s City is excited to see the positive impact he will bring to the museum when he formally joins the staff on July 24.
