Heroes In Action: Southern Pines Emergency Response Team Honored

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners presented the Southern Pines Emergency Response Team with the Team Excellence Award.

The team members were Melinda Gaines and Anne Sledge of the Department of Community Resources, Office of Aging Division, and Vera Johnson and Diane Griffin of Calvert County Parks and Recreation.

On June 12, 2024, a fitness room participant collapsed and became unresponsive. Melinda Gaines assessed the situation, began CPR and called 911. Anne Sledge joined in administering CPR while Vera Johnson and Diane Griffin quickly retrieved the AED.

Their swift, coordinated efforts kept the participant alive until EMS arrived. The EMS team later praised their life-saving teamwork, highlighting their dedication and quick thinking. This team’s actions demonstrate why they deserve the Team Excellence Award.
