HUNTINGTOWN, Md. – Anthony Wayne Armiger, the owner of All American Towing and Recovery, was arrested on September 4, 2024, in Huntingtown, Maryland, for driving under the influence, following a complaint from a resident who had nearly been run off the road by his tow truck. The report indicated that Armiger, who was operating a red, white, and blue tow truck from his company, was seen swerving and driving erratically on Solomons Island Road, posing a danger to others.
A Calvert County Sheriff’s officer arrived at Armiger’s home after spotting him unsteadily exiting the vehicle. According to the official police report, Armiger appeared visibly intoxicated, stumbling and using the side of the truck to maintain his balance. He slurred his speech and exhibited glassy, bloodshot eyes. When questioned, Armiger denied having consumed alcohol but subsequently admitted to having had “a couple of beers” after failing multiple field sobriety tests.
The arrest comes at a time when Armiger’s business practices are under scrutiny. His towing company, which holds contracts with local communities like Long Beach and Chesapeake Beach, has garnered scores of negative reviews on public forums, including accusations of predatory towing practices and exceptionally poor customer service. In a Facebook post, a resident of North Beach claimed Armiger’s company targets vehicles right as parking tickets expire, calling their tactics “hunting.”
Adding to the incident’s gravity, the police report mentioned that Armiger’s reckless driving also endangered a school bus, prompting an inquiry with the Calvert County Public Schools Transportation Department. Footage captured by a neighbor’s security camera also confirmed Armiger was the sole driver of the vehicle during the incident. Armiger acknowledged his mistake to the officers, reportedly stating, “I knew this was coming,” and expressed concern over losing his towing contract with the sheriff’s office.
The case is still pending further investigation, and community outrage continues to build against Armiger’s company as more negative experiences surface.
